Mukti Masih, the co-founder of AVM Pictures is a passionate writer, has written 300+ scripts for ad films, architectural walkthroughs, corporate videos and industrial walkthroughs. She has written website content for 400+ websites in the last 14 years. Prior to getting into content writing, this Journalism & Mass Communication graduate with MA in Sociology worked with major news publication houses. In her four-year stint as a journalist, she worked with The Free Press Journal, The Times of India, The Maharashtra Herald and Harmony magazine. Later she went on to be India’s topmost content writer contributing to industries like IT/SaaS, Travel/Hotel/Food, Consumer durable goods, Manufacturing, Cloud accounting, E-Commerce, and Ed-Tech.

She is a role model for single Indian women. Since she is an ardent follower of Jesus Christ, those teachings invariably get mentioned in some of her blogs. Since her childhood, she has been multi-talented. At an age of 10, she was among the three students chosen from her school to recite their respective poems on All India Radio. She wrote her first poem at the age of eight, titled ‘Our Earth Is A Ball’. She candidly confesses,

“Even now if you ask me about the process of my writing, my answer would be – I don’t know because I have been writing since the age of eight and I did not pay attention to my process. Writing comes just naturally to me. But here’s the funny thing, I was 15 when this sitcom ‘Shanti’ began on Doordarshan channel. I was so smitten by the character of this journalist played by Mandira Bedi that I decided to pursue journalism, and not writing.”

After her B.Com, she did a post-graduate diploma in Journalism from Indore University. She dreamt of working with the Times of India, and then move on to TV journalism with NDTV. The first was achieved at the age of 23. But in a year’s time she realized that she didn’t want to be a journalist anymore. She is also a published author with Ukiyoto Publishing that published her debut book “Poem in a Chai Cup” in September 2020.

Throughout her life, she has been a learner. She has an inherent tendency to critique her own work and challenge herself. She has always been confident about her work, thus, never compromised on working at ridiculously low rates. When she was out of work, she used the free time to read books, study other contemporary writers, and explore work online.

Like any other entrepreneur, Mukti too underwent those initial struggles. Her first struggle was to finally decide to quit a media brand like The Times of India. Changing the course of life from journalism to full-time freelance writing didn’t look too promising at initial stage. The next struggle was to find writing gigs consistently. It was in 2005-06. She didn’t know anything about Upwork, or Freelancer.com etc, so she listed herself on Craig’s list. She had to sit idle for months. According to her,

“One big lesson during my time of struggles was this: it is okay to fail! And failing several times helped me take a harder look at my writing skills. I began polishing my work.”

She draws inspiration from other writers and looks up to Anita Joseph, her editor during her short writing stint with Family Ethos magazine in Bangalore. Her stories have made it to Top 50 MOST READ stories on YourStory in 2016, followed by Top 50 MOST LOVED stories on YourStory in 2017. She is listed among the Top 10 freelance writers of India by Engineer Babu in  2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. She is listed among Top 10 Freelance Indian Writers to follow on Linked-in by Indian Business Council.

With such an amazing feat, Mukti has a word of advice for newbies in this field. According to her,

“You can master anything as long as you are consistent. Choose something you love and be consistent with it. Consistency will take you farther, not volume or size of your work or salary.”
