Dr. Bhuvan Nagpal and the Architecture of Ethical Diagnostic Systems

Dr. Bhuvan Nagpal’s professional journey reflects a rare commitment to building healthcare systems that are precise, ethical, and inclusive. At a time when diagnostic services in India often struggle with standardisation and accessibility, particularly outside metropolitan regions, Dr. Nagpal has dedicated his career to strengthening laboratory medicine, oral pathology, and medico-legal diagnostics through structured, accountable institutions.

His entrepreneurial journey began in 2011, when, at just 23 years of age, he established the Ravijyoti Oral Pathology Clinic. This early initiative was rooted in a clear understanding of diagnostic gaps in smaller towns and rural regions. Rather than viewing healthcare as a purely clinical practice, Dr. Nagpal envisioned diagnostics as a system that must combine scientific accuracy, quality control, and ethical governance.

Academically, Dr. Nagpal holds an extensive multidisciplinary background, including qualifications in dentistry, oral pathology, clinical biochemistry, healthcare management, medico-legal systems, and law. This rare blend enabled him to understand diagnostics not only from a scientific standpoint but also from regulatory, administrative, and legal perspectives. His early professional years were spent working with NABL- and NABH-accredited laboratories, where he gained hands-on exposure to hematology, histopathology, cytopathology, molecular diagnostics, laboratory administration, and quality management systems.

His leadership capabilities soon led him to roles such as Laboratory Administrator, Quality Manager, and Project In-Charge for diagnostic centre setups across multiple towns. By his late twenties, Dr. Nagpal was serving as Laboratory Director and NABL-authorised signatory, overseeing diagnostic quality in rural Haryana. This phase reinforced his belief that world-class diagnostic standards could be implemented outside urban centres if backed by strong systems and disciplined execution.

In 2016, Dr. Nagpal founded the Centre for Oral Pathology & Maxillofacial Diagnostics (COPMD™) in Hisar. Conceptualised as India’s first dedicated oral pathology referral centre, COPMD™ was designed to provide specialised diagnostic interpretation to clinicians nationwide. The centre has played a critical role in improving early detection and accurate diagnosis of oral cancers and complex maxillofacial conditions, particularly in regions lacking specialist expertise.

Beyond diagnostics, Dr. Nagpal recognised the systemic under-representation of oral pathologists within India’s healthcare framework. This led to the formation of the Practicing Oral Pathologists & Microbiologists Association (POPMA™) in 2023. As Founder-President, he has actively engaged regulatory authorities and accreditation bodies to advocate professional recognition, ethical practice, and policy inclusion.

His medico-legal initiative, Ravijyoti MedLab & Medico-Legal Consultancy (RJML2™), further strengthens healthcare accountability by integrating diagnostics with legal compliance and expert advisory services. Through research, mentorship, and advocacy, Dr. Nagpal continues to architect diagnostic systems built on trust, transparency, and scientific integrity.
