ID. Padmaja Singh and The Lotus Studio

From a young age, I found myself drawn to art, architecture, and the interplay of form and function. Growing up, I was constantly rearranging my room, experimenting with colors and textures, and imagining how spaces could be transformed to better suit their occupants.

After completing my graduation in life sciences and embarking on a career in education, I later pursued my MA and M Ed. Teaching young adults Sciences and English was fulfilling, followed by a stint as the headmistress of a primary school. Then, another break followed as I accommodated the arrival of another child.

During this time, I also undertook the task of doing up my own apartment. This experience made me realize that interior design was the perfect blend of my interests in creativity, problem-solving, and human interaction. I was captivated by the idea of not just designing beautiful spaces, but also creating environments that positively impact people’s lives – whether it’s through promoting productivity in a workspace, fostering relaxation in a home, or sparking inspiration in a public setting.

This led me to pursue further education in Interior Design, which I completed with flying colors. I gained valuable experience working under the guidance of renowned interior designers, which further fueled my passion for the field.

In 2003, I took a bold step and founded my own firm, The Lotus Studio. This decision allowed me the freedom to fully express my design vision, work closely with clients, and pursue projects that aligned with my values and passions.

For me, interior design is more than just a business; it’s a passion. I work closely with my clients, taking into consideration their lifestyles, requirements, and preferences when designing their homes. My personal design philosophy favors clean lines and a simplistic yet elegant and classy approach. I believe that a home should be cozy, functional, elegant, and easy to maintain, where form always follows function.

The decision to start my own interior design firm was driven by a combination of ambition, passion, and a desire for autonomy. I wanted to create a studio where creativity could flourish, client relationships could be nurtured, and design excellence could be pursued at every step of the process.

With careful planning, dedication, and support from colleagues, I took the leap and founded The Lotus Studio. It’s been an exhilarating journey so far, filled with exciting challenges, rewarding collaborations, and the satisfaction of seeing my designs come to life in tangible ways.
